Suomen Cup, sixth round

Full results from the sixth round can be found here. Shocks were thin on the ground, but Jippo beat Viikingit. Jippo have a 16 year old player called Lauri Dalla Valle who is causing excitement among some people here. He had options to go abroad but decided to stay in Joensuu, hitherto famous only for having a lot of violent skinheads. If he can change the town’s image I’m sure they’ll be very happy.

  1. Well, it’s also an important cultural centre of the Karelian diaspora and has therefore brought up many artistic talents, such as the Alanko brothers and Jaakko Teppo, but the western indoctrination practived in Tampere region understandably tends to disregard that side of things…

Farid Ghazi retires, by the way, citing family reasons. Paulus Roiha and Markus Heikkinen move to new clubs – Ujpest and Rapid Wien, respectively.

  2. Can’t understand why Heikkinen would want to leave Luton. It’s such a lovely place.

You’re right about Joensuu, but the culture vultures don’t return my emails when I want to write about them, so I’ll stick to my western prejudices till they deign to respond.

  3. “Can’t understand why Heikkinen would want to leave Luton. It’s such a lovely place.”

    Do I sense a little sarcasm?😀
