Veritas Stadium: what the fuck?

I heard something about Veritas today. Apparently there is some kind of problem with the plans to build a stand at one end of the ground, because of the usual municipal mess-ups. Sources indicate that one politician in particular is to blame, Pauliina de Anna.

Any of my Turkulainen readers want to fill in the substantial gaps in my knowledge while I’m off in the land of bratwurst, lederhosen and reinheitsgebot?

  1. Turku will be getting its end stand.

  2. Well that’s brilliant isn’t it?

  3. Your sources were wrong, De Anna wasn’t the worst enemy of the football state, although she did want to postpone the decision earlier on. It was the old leftist geezers from SDP and Vasemmistoliitto who weren’t really aware of what kind of decision they were making when they had to find storage for the city’s working equipment, nor what kind of decision thay made when applying to host the European Championships.

It all turned out well in the end. Much thanks to the football activists through out Turku and Finland. They got their point across by emailing the reprecentatives and holding a demonstration last monday.

  5. All’s well that ends well. Football in Turku seems to be doing pretty well at the moment anyway, and with that many seats Veritas will be a much better place to watch the national team than Finnair Stadium.

If only Tampere had anything half as good….

  6. If we absolutely had to play a qualifying match away from the Helsinki Olympic Stadium, then Veritas would be my preferred back-up choice.
