Mikko Vuroela is THE MAN

You’d better believe it. Vuorela was picky with his free kicks and aggressive with his bookings, but the only one I could find definite fault with was the yellow card he gave to Hietanen for time-wasting.  The Lahti bench went apeshit over the free kick that led to the first goal, and it didn’t look like much of anything to me, but Lahti should have made the game safe a long time before that.

In Espoo Inter threw away the lead yet again, but this time their substitute keeper, Oskari Forsman,  saved a penalty late on after Patrick Bantamoi had lunged in the penalty area. It probably felt much better than their draws against TamU and IFK, and at least they retain their unbeaten record.

TPS lost at home to Odense in the Intertoto Cup, missing chances and blaming the dodgy referee.  Tonight FF Jaro play VPS in Pietarsaari, the game will be on Urheilukanava at 7pm. Here are the Veikkausliiga results from Sunday:

Haka 2 Lahti 1

IFK Mariehamn 1 TamU 4

FC Honka 1 FC Inter 1

MyPa 4 KuPS 1

RoPS 3 KTP 0

Highlights here

Every game in Ykkönen finished as a draw this weekend. I wonder what the odds on that were…

  1. Well, the referee sucked indeed. Before the free kick that put Odense in front, a clear foul was committed against Aristides Pertot. TPS had played some 20 minutes without free kicks while the Latvian official seemed to favour the Danish side all the time.

Anyway, it was a truly beautiful free kick. Too bad they got it for free. TPS had chances though, and should have won the game. You wouldn’t expect the likes of Patrik Lomski and Riku Riski to dominate in an international fixture against Odense. Poor finishing cost TPS a win, and a mistake by the referee made sure it wouldn’t be a draw.

It’s gonna be a lot of work next week as TPS conceded two away goals, but with last night’s performance, everything is possible. It looked like Liigacup again.

  2. Yeah, I thought that would flush you out (hehehe). Maybe Odense will take it easy if they think they have it in the bag already?

  3. I don’t think so. TPS certainly showed they are no pushovers, so Odense know they will have to do a professional job. After all, Odense were struggling for a considerable part of the fixture.

Getting into the third round is not impossible, but it’s a lot of work…You never know.
