Veikkausliiga Round 13 Preview (Part 2)

TamU lost yesterday, but the stats show a decent performance. The result sent MyPa to the top of the league, and kept TamU down in  lower mid-table. They will almost certainly have to rely on the cup to get into Europe this year, and they have a tough Quarter Final draw:

FC Haka – TP-47

FC Honka – Tampere United

VPS – MyPa

HJK – Warkaus JK

HJK once again being shafted by the footballing establishment, just like they were at the start of the season with opening games against IFK, KTP, VPS and KuPS. Games will be played on the 7th and 8th of August, but Honka-TamU and Haka-TP-47 look likely candidates for postponement should either club get through to the Second Qualifying Round of their respective European competitions.

This draw is shamelessly copy-pasted from Mika’s excellent Finnish Football blog. If you haven’t looked at it yet, you should. While I probably would have noticed that Litmanen is training with Lahti, there’s no way I would be able to tell you that TP-47’s Cameroonian midfielder Alfred Mapoka had signed for PFC Botev Plovdiv without Mika’s help.

Right, on with the preview.

Honka v IFK

Honka are missing Otaru, IFK have a lot of players out. Honka had a bit of a stroll in the park against Akranes on Thursday, while IFK suffered the indignity of conceding a winner direct from a corner against Lahti. I have to say Honka are big favourites for this one, but fingers crossed for the Ålanders. They’re due a bit of luck. There could well be a lot of Finlandsvensk at the game, after a free ticket promotion for Hufvudstadsbladet readers, and the weather looks absolutely glorious. Lets hope it’s a big crowd.

I’ll do Jaro-Inter and RoPS-KuPS tomorrow morning. RoPS-KuPS is this week’s TV game, kick-off 7pm and live on Urheilukanava.
