Great throw-ins of our time

Finland’s women played Iceland tonight, and managed to get another draw to go with the one they secured on Sunday. It was 0-0 tonight, and 1-1 on Sunday. This is a vast improvement on the 3-0 defeat that gave Finland a last-place finish in this year’s Algarve Cup, but they still have some way to go before they can be confident of a decent showing in next summer’s European Championships.

That’s all very interesting, but what I really want to show you is this fantastic throw-in from Ásta Árnadóttir:

  1. Hey, mate.

The throw-in is certainly outstanding, but no news.

I have to say, proudly, that again Brazil (where football was improved with class and swing from its original Brit rough form) is the origin of such acrobatic football move (until someone proves me wrong… . 🙂 )

Leah, a player of under-20 Brazilian Female National Squad has done that very often lately.

She was raised in the USA and is not sure if she will play for Brazil or USA afterwards, but since she is wearing our sacred outfit, I claim this is a novelty created in the real land of football. 🙂

Here is a report (in portuguese) on the major sports program in Brazil with images of the girl’s move.

  2. I was going to ask whether it was a women’s thing, but apparently Steve Watson used to do it at Newcastle too. hard to believe, given his injury record this season.
